Oh Fifi, your card arrived this morning, so beautiful. Thank you. I am at a loss as to why that picture is so perfect and moving even to a heathen such as myself, but it is. Love xxx

I got completely stiffed by my staff this year, so I know exactly how you feel! Unleashes the inner scorekeeper!

OK Now *I* want a card!! Just kidding! :) Fifi, Biba does sound a dream. Also, I understand the scorecarding thing, because it's more about being up front about things. It is not nice when people take advantage of the fact that other people are sort of 'better off.' Me, I would rather skip gifts altogether, except when I think of something special and surprise someone. Having said this, I got a surprise XMAS gift this year from someone across the ocean and it made my day. I just don't know. There's a whole book on this (the dynamics of giving/thank yous) by Margaret Viss3r. :)

re: getting stiffed. I finally convinced the sibs that we didn't need to exchange gift cards anymore and that IF they still needed to gift somone, I'd rather they gifted Ma, who needs it more and is entitled to it in her "golden years". So, that wasn't an issue, BUT, one of the things that led to me wanting to forego the whole gift thing was a complete lack of basic manners, i.e., not even acknowledging that a gift had been received when I knew that it had. Hrmp!!! I agree with Blue and skipped most of the gifting process this year (except for Ma) and those I gave out were back in October so they knew I did it because I wanted to and didn't expect anything in return. It isn't about getting anything, but when you put time and effort into doing something for someone, yeah, there are still some expectations, even if it's just a thank you. Fifi, I hope your new year is good to you!! XO :)
